24 Doors of Merchants’ – Day 16
Congratulations if you guessed the West Door at the Boys’ School!
This photograph of the West Front was taken as part of a series of photographs of the school in about 1900. At this time, the original building was 22 years old while the extension to the North Corridor was about 7 years old. Nowadays, the ivy has been cleared away from the brickwork and the small tree outside the West Door has disappeared.
Present day observers will notice a window has been inserted in the upstairs classroom to the far side of the bay window. The extension is the section beyond the gable and can be distinguished by the slightly different architectural detail such as the shape of the circular windows at the top of the building. The rear wall of the extension has been subsumed into the Williams Hall.
