24 Doors of Merchants’ – Day 6
Today’s door will be very familiar to those of you involved in drama during your time at school..
The stage door has been the gateway to many productions over the years, from Grease to Les Miserables, Fame to Jesus Christ Superstar.
Many of you worked with Dr John Gill; Dr Gill was Director of Drama from 1993-2020, and was also Head of English from September 2002 to July 2015. He directed thirty five productions including “Leave it to Psmith” (1990), “King Henry the Fourth Part One” (1993), “See How They Run!” ( 1994 & 2006), “Dry Rot” (1995), “Our Day Out” (1996 & 2016), “Images of Liverpool” (1989, 1997,1998 & 1999), “A Celebration of Liverpool” (2005, 2010, 2015), “Images of Faith” (2000), “An Inspector Calls” (1998 & 2010), “Grease” ( 1999 , 2008 & 2016), “Breezeblock Park” (1999), ” Jesus Christ Superstar” ( 2000 & 2010), “Fame ” (2002), “Cabaret” ( 2003), “West Side Story” (2004) , “Les Miserables” ( 2006 and 2012), “King Lear” (2008), “Nuremberg – The War Crimes Trial” (2007), “A Ghost Story” (2011), “Hamlet” (2012),”Macbeth” (2001 and 2014) and “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” (2014).
Collaborating with David Holroyd, Director of Music at MTS, he directed eleven musicals, the last one being “Fame” performed in November 2018.
Our current Head of Performing Arts, Emma Gregson-Burt, has taken charge of productions including One Man, Two Guv’nors, Little Shop of Horrors and Hairspray.
