Ethics Bowl
The tension was palpable on Wednesday as the 2023/24 Ethics Bowl reached its thrilling conclusion. Our distinguished judging panel presided over the event in which our final five teams participated.
Professor John Liptay, the Department Head of Philosophy and Acting Head of Religion and Culture at St. Thomas More College, University of Saskatchewan, brought his scholarly insights to the table. His expertise in ethical matters added depth to the discussions.
David Evans, a Deputy District Judge and former Senior Partner of BLM, lent his legal acumen to the proceedings. Also judging was John Turner, the former Head of Medical Services at Aintree Hospital and Chair of Healthwatch Sefton. His practical experience in healthcare ethics provided a unique perspective.
The Ethics Bowl is no ordinary competition. It’s a forum where teams engage in dialogic arguments, dissecting real-life ethical dilemmas. The judges scrutinised each team’s responses for clarity, thoroughness, and thoughtfulness. Communication, collaboration, and critical thinking were also key criteria.
Throughout the rounds, topics like “risky moral decisions” and “stuck in love” sparked intense debates. In the end, it was Team C—comprising Tal, Rohan, Tom, and Arjun who emerged victorious.
A huge well done to all who took part.
