Matilda Performances Bring Magic to Merchant Taylors’
The enchanting tale of “Matilda” came alive in the Williams Hall, captivating audiences across three unforgettable nights. From the opening curtain to the final bow, the young cast delivered performances that left the audience spellbound.
The talented ensemble stepped into their characters with confidence. Matilda, portrayed by the remarkable April, embodied the spirit of resilience and intelligence. Meanwhile, Miss Trunchball, brought to life by Shivy, balanced menace and humour flawlessly.
The Wormwood family — Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood kept the laughs coming, while sweet-singing Miss Honey tugged at our heartstrings. And who could forget Bruce, the cake-loving boy? Their performances were worthy of a professional stage, earning them standing ovations each night.
Beyond the evening shows, Merchant Taylors’ hosted a special matinee performance for pupils from Stanfield and Forefield Junior School. The young audience members were treated to a magical morning, complete with captivating storytelling and memorable songs. It’s moments like these that ignite a love for the arts in the hearts of the next generation.
Before the main event and during the interval, the Matilda band took centre stage. Led by music teacher Mr. Smith, their live music added an extra layer of enchantment to the already captivating show. Their well-rehearsed tunes set the mood, leaving the audience humming along even after the final curtain fell.
Head of Drama Miss Blundell and her dedicated team deserve applause for their hard work and commitment. From rehearsals to costumes, lighting, and set design, every detail was meticulously planned. The result? A triumphant run of “Matilda Jr” that will be remembered for years to come.
Congratulations to everyone involved on a spectacular production! We can’t wait to see what magic they’ll bring to the stage next.
