Cricket success continues at Merchant Taylors’
It has been an excellent few weeks for cricket at Merchant Taylors’ School.
On Tuesday, our Under 15s team defeated Liverpool Bluecoat to progress to the last four of the Lancashire Cup, followed by victory for our Under 14s team on Thursday against St Mary’s College in the quarter-final of the Lancashire Cup.
The U14s travel to Sedbergh School next week to take part in the northern final of the National Cup, having defeated Altrincham Grammar School in the previous round.
This follows a successful half term which saw 72 boys and girls from local schools join our head of cricket coaching, Gary Yates, for a specialist two-day coaching camp.
Alongside daily lunchtime nets practice for senior boys, we have welcomed dozens of junior girls and boys for after-school cricket practice on the Boys’ School field.
We were also thrilled to learn that three Stanfield boys have been selected to play for Lancashire County Cricket Club this season. Zach and Shivy in Year 5 and Nate in Year 6 will represent the county’s Under 10s and Under 11s teams, respectively.
Training with the Lancashire CCC Academy is also set to begin in September once COVID restrictions are lifted, allowing aspirational young cricketers from across the local area to use our facilities.
