Impressive Silver for Callum

Callum Davidson produced a number of impressive performances to claim silver at the 2016 Northern Ireland Open Judo Championships held in Londonderry last weekend.

Year 7 pupil Callum started the day well controlling his first fight resulting in a comfortable win.  The second fight saw Callum continue with his positive judo that resulted in winning within 15 seconds of the start of the fight.  Callum’s third fight saw an even quicker finish – quick footwork afforded the opportunity to launch his opponent with a stunning shoulder throw in under seven seconds that saw him progress to the final.

Despite a confident performance Callum was narrowly beaten but took the contest to its full time.  Having just missed out on a bronze medal and placing fifth in his first international competition as a Pre-Cadet in Edinburgh earlier this year and missing out on a medal at the British Schools Judo Championships 2016 where Callum represented Merchant Taylors’ Senior Boys’ School this silver medal is a well deserved reward.

“I’m really happy with the silver medal as it’s my first national medal since becoming a Pre-Cadet fighter in December 2015.  My past performances having been improving so to have won this medal shows the hard work and dedication has paid off.  My next goal is to be selected for the British National Team Championships in July 2016.”
