Inspection Day Review
It was the turn of the RAF Contingent this year to host the Inspecting Officer at the Combined Cadet Forces Annual Review. Group Captain Mark Gilligan was warmly welcomed to the event by Mrs Louise Robinson, the Girls’ School’s Headmistress, along with Merchants’ Contingent Commander Colonel Mike Slemen.
Group Captain Gilligan was joined by regular Officers from all forces, some of whom were previously cadets, as well as other invited special guests for a lunch prior to the start of the Inspection. His first duty was to inspect the Guard of Honour, after which he was escorted to various stands and activities by three Senior Cadets.
All 240 cadets arranged, planned and participated in various activities, such as flight simulation and first aid demonstration for the RAF. The activities also included navigation and map reading for the Navy, with field craft and an inflatable obstacle course for the Army. The cadets then participated in a mock up section attack put on for the spectators and parents.
The final event of the Inspection was the March On Parade, where the Group Captain presented Duke of Edinburgh Awards, and praised the cadets and officers on their hard work and determination.
To end the day senior cadets, who are leaving for university, were invited to attend the Dining out Dinner, as a celebration of their achievements and time in the Cadets. They were joined by members of staff, and the Guest of Honour, ex-cadet, Major Gary Hayes of the 3 Armoured Regiment. It was a wonderful event enjoyed by all.
