Lancashire Cricket Success for Three Former Pupils
Lancashire’s Second XI faced Yorkshire in their opening Second XI Trophy game of the season and featured three former Merchant Taylors’ pupils in their XI.
The match took place at Scarborough Cricket Club and it was the second time that Lancashire had faced Yorkshire having drawn a friendly game in the days prior.
Lancashire were captained by 2018 Leaver, George Lavelle who was also joined in the team by former pupils Tom Hartley and Ben Aitchison. Captain Lavelle won the toss and elected to bowl first, but Yorkshire made a strong start with the bat reaching 239-2.
Lancashire eventually restricted their opposition to 314-9 but unfortunately never got going with the bat themselves against an experienced Yorkshire XI. Lancashire were bowled out for 104 which saw them defeated by 210 runs.
Both Lavelle and Hartley signed their first professional contracts with Lancashire prior to the 2019 season. Lavelle has recently travelled to Dubai with the first team on the 2018 pre-season tour and was also called up the England U19s, making his debut against South Africa.
🎥 Rob Lord took 4-61 with the ball as Yorkshire posted 314-9 from their 50 overs.

Hartley, a spin bowler, played an important role in the Second XI squad which was crowned T20 Champions, claiming three for 12 in the final against Essex. Speaking after signing his deal, Tom Hartley, 20, said: “I am thrilled to sign my first professional contract with the Red Rose.”
Everyone at MTS wishes all three every success in their respective futures!
